March 2019

Dear Members

Firstly, welcome to the opening of the 2019 season. This commences with the Captain v Vice-Captain game on Saturday 20th April starting at 1.30 pm. To help with the organisation, would those wishing to play please place their names on the Clubhouse notice board by Saturday 13th April or ask someone else to do it for you if you cannot get to the Clubhouse before the date - both Jacky Farris and I are happy for you to contact us.

The committee wish to remind you that the annual subscription of £100 is due by the 1st April. Please would you use the attached form, where you can also add in Competition entries and fees and Gold Club and thus only need to use one cheque.

As most of you will receive this letter by email the Handbook will not be enclosed but will be available for collection from the Clubhouse by the beginning of the season.
Therefore you will find the following information with this letter. If anyone needs paper copies of any of the forms please do let me know.

• Form for competition entries and fees
• Competitions: dates of the various rounds and Finals Days
• Catering Rota and notes
• Weekend Fixture list and Thursday Triples fixture list
• Emergency medical form (in case you need to update information)

If you wish to start having an emergency medical form in your bowls bag, please fill in the form and then ask Jacky Farris for an envelope for you to put it in. She will also provide a named bag tag.

Lists for weekend friendly matches, Thursday friendly matches and C & D, CMBL and Chelmer Ladies league games will also be on the various noticeboards as is the entry form for the Coronation Shield.
As so many of us are now on email, people have been asking if they may have everybody’s email address. This cannot easily be inserted in the handbook but could be sent out by email. However, if anyone has objections to their email being shared by all in the club please let me know by 1st April and I will remove it from the list. This will not stop you receiving emails from me on club business.

We are now employing new contractors for the management of the green, Roots2Shoots. They will be cutting the grass on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays before 10 am the same as our previous contractors. However, they will be doing the main maintenance work on Tuesday mornings so the green will be closed on Tuesdays until 1 pm and obviously open all day on Wednesdays.

On the first match of the season, we will not only have the first Gold Club draw but also a raffle for tickets donated by Essex County Cricket Club.

Dates for your diary
There is a meeting for all the gentlemen involved in the C & D Leagues on Sunday 21st April at 10 am to select captains followed by a practice session.
The CMBL squads will have an informal practice on Tuesday 30th April at 5.45 followed by a meeting to select squad captains with hot drinks/ bar available. There will be a full practice on Tuesday 7 May at 5.45.If you cannot make 5.45 please still come along as soon as you can.
Last year we offered a refresher session at the beginning of the season which was very popular. So we are arranging this again for Saturday morning 27th April from 10-12 noon when our coaches will be on hand to give advice and support to anyone who just needs a bit of encouragement and help to get them going again on the bowls green.

Finally, President Derek and the Committee look forward to seeing you all at the opening match and wish you an enjoyable bowling season.

Yours sincerely

Wendy Harvey
Hon. Secretary For and on behalf of the Committee
